Privacy & POPIA notice

1. Who we are

2. Personal information we collect

We collect only what we need to respond to you and to run our programmes:

• Contact, partner and mentor forms — your name, email, phone number, organisation and message.
• Newsletter sign-up — your email address, only if you choose to subscribe.
• Donations — your name, contact details, giving preferences and Section 18A certificate requests.

We do not collect personal information from learners or minors through this public website. Where GOE research requires identity, it is pseudonymous and held separately from educational records.

3. How we use your information

• To respond to your enquiry, application or offer of support.
• To process pledges, donations and Section 18A tax certificates.
• To send you the newsletter — only where you have subscribed.
• To keep the records the law requires us to keep.

We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not use it for unrelated marketing.

4. Consent

Every form on this site asks for your consent before we process your information, consistent with our obligations under POPIA. You may withdraw your consent at any time by contacting [privacy@thegoe.org]. Withdrawal does not affect processing that was lawful before you withdrew.

5. Sharing your information

We share personal information only with service providers who help us operate — each under an obligation to protect it — or where the law requires disclosure. Sponsors and partners never receive editorial conclusions, rankings or learner data in exchange for support; sponsorship independence is structural, not aspirational.

6. Security and retention

We apply reasonable technical and organisational security measures, and keep personal information only as long as it is needed. When it is no longer required, we delete or de-identify it.

7. Your rights

POPIA gives you the right to access, correct or delete your personal information, to object to its processing, and to lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa. To exercise any of these rights, contact [privacy@thegoe.org].
